Good Time 03:52
Awkward Please don't make it awkard Awkward wipe the lipstick of your teeth And now smile Good time We're all here to have a good time So go ahead Put your keys in the bowl Don't be shy Girl you talk too much I've more than heard enough If you didn't come to party Why did you come wearing that skirt? If you didn't come to party You should've stayed home little girl If you didn't come to have fun Why did you come here at all If you're not having a good time it's not their fault Heavy His body looks so heavy Heavy Just try to relax don't ruin the mood Good time We're all here to have a good time If he gets upset you know, you know It's on you Girl you talk too much I've more than heard enough If you didn't come to party Why did you come wearing that skirt? If you didn't come to party You should've stayed home little girl If you didn't come to have fun Why did you come here at all If you're not having a good time it's not their fault If you're not having a good time it's not their fault If you're not having a good time If you're not having a good time If you're not having a good time it's not their fault

Male Lead 05:19
Dive in to each syllable My name turn in to a murmur somewhere far away You hand me your drink and ask me if I want a taste So softly like a kiss I place my lips where yours were resting just a sec ago My head seams to forget who's waiting for me at home I'll just stay five more minutes then I am leaving I got to go before reality kicks in But you're a poster A polaroid You're a poem You're a love song a notebook that I've stolen You're the male lead from a movie screen You're the first chapter of an epic love story You're the male lead In my daydream And for a second there I almost believed You lean in I'm listening to the scented absence of routinely bickering Like a hotel soap bar with a hint of cinnamon I'll just stay five more minutes then I am leaving I got to go before reality kicks in But you're a poster A polaroid You're a poem You're a love song a notebook that I've stolen You're the male lead from a movie screen You're the first chapter of an epic love story You're the male lead In my daydream And for a second there I almost believed Somewhere someone's calling Somewhere something's happening Somewhere someone's waiting for me...

about

Astrid Cordes is releasing a five song long EP called 'Hurry Up', as the first chapter of an EP-trilogy. Together with the two singles 'Male Lead' and 'Good Time', both of which have received high praise in the media and still are getting a lot of airtime on especially Danish Radio, the three new tracks compile a strong collection of songs, all revolving around solitude.

Cordes elaborates:
“I've pondered a lot about solitude after becoming a mother. Maybe it's because I never get to experience it anymore. On one hand being alone is liberating, on the other it can be quite lonely. There's something powerful about standing on your own, but it can also be a very exposed position. The songs on 'Hurry Up' have become a disclosure of my own aloneness.”

The music is produced by Jacob Brøndlund and recorded live with a band in Copenhagen at Sauna Recoding Studio. The vibrating nerve Cordes' live performances are known for is very present in these songs. They contain a lot of the elements she has gained recognition for on her first solo release, 'Beautiful Mess', which followed the years in the successful indie pop duo Shy shy shy. Still, she has once again managed to renew herself as an artist and develop her expression on this release.

The EP opens with the two previous singles and the first new song we are presented with is 'Strangers Now'. A slow, melancholic composition that drags itself through the rubbles of a ruined friendship. After that we are met with 'Staring at the Ceiling', which in many ways sound like a classic Astrid Cordes-ballad. That is until the chorus sets in with a Motown-like choir arrangement as a response for her plea ”Push me, I wanna fall back in love”. To finish 'Hurry Up' Cordes surprises with her first song in Danish, 'Jeg Venter' (I'm waiting). A grand, dancy discharge of energy that, according to the artist herself, builds a bridge to the next chapter in the trilogy, which is set to be released this fall. That EP will have moved on from loneliness and will instead talk about love, sex and maternity.

What connects the five songs on 'Hurry Up' is Cordes' captivating storytelling. It meanders through a landscape of punchy drums and a steady bass that alternate between driving the tracks forward and holding them back, of colorful synthesizers and celestial electric guitars, but for the first time also of acoustic piano and guitar that brings a warm nearness to the table. This is a release that testify Astrid Cordes as an uncompromising and playful artist, who relentlessly strive to challenge and refine her expression and to make strong, relevant songs.

about

Astrid Cordes Copenhagen, Denmark

Since 2014 Astrid Cordes has been known as one of two vocals in the Danish duo Shy shy shy. Now she has put the sweet indie pop aside to make room for a new solo release which points in a more gritty and unpolished direction.

The songs are still steered by Cordes' charismatic voice and talent for telling stories, but is set in a darker, more guitar driven, mature and uncompromising environment.
