Unwinding 03:22
You don't have to come I'm doing okay Sure you've got other plans Don't go out of your way I know I should call more often I've just been busy I've just been buzzing Don't put your health aside for my comfort That's what I say when we Talk on the phone But it's not just my job and the laundry It's me that's unwinding Don't sound so worried It's just a fever I've got some left overs Sitting in the freezer I insist But you never listen You just declare that you've already booked your ticket Don't put your health aside for my comfort That's what I say as I fall into your arms But I've been crying in the shower all morning Lately I've been eating my feelings And having troubles sleeping I'm so sorry that I yelled when you called me You just caught me of guard Is it supposed to be this hard No it's not just my job and the laundry It's me that's unwinding It's me that's unwinding

I’m coming for you at 2 pm when the house is quiet And the kid's sleeping wearing your dirty shirt for days wrapping myself in your scent We’ve been doing nothing but talk lately Maybe we just need a little hush Ah…. x 4 I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut the blinds and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes A ha I don’t need scented candles Don’t need a big show Just let me have your body On the wooden floor Sliding your hand down past my waist Looking straight the countdown's on I don’t need to see the smile on your face I know you and I know what you want Ah…. x 4 I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut the blinds and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut your mouth and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut the blinds and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut your mouth and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes A ha A ha I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut the blinds and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut your mouth and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut the blinds and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes I can be quiet on the living room floor So lay me down Shut your mouth and lock the door Baby we’ve been waiting for days Dancing around like cranes A ha

I sleep in the t-shirt you wore on the first day that we met the printing is almost worn off but we are still the same it's just a different life oh I, I still see Indian summer in your eyes Sink in to a memory of sand and soaring kites in the heat I'm not ready to leave Let's get drunk on stolen time Stay up talking through the night Do I still smell like Heather and pine? See the sun begin to rise Kiss me in the morning light Do I still smell like Heather and pine? Pull me into your arms Tell me how you see me now Am I still beautiful in your eyes I ask without standing down You just laugh for a while And then syncronize your breathing to mine Sink in to a memory of sand and soaring kites in the heat I'm not ready to leave Let's get drunk on stolen time Stay up talking through the night Do I still smell like Heather and pine? See the sun begin to rise Kiss me in the morning light Do I still smell like Heather and pine? Heather and pine? Do I still smell like Heather and pine? See the sun begin to rise Kiss me in the morning light Do I still smell like Heather and pine?

about

With Danish National Radio favourites 'Not Gonna Die Tonight', 'Male Lead' and the latest single 'Dancing Cranes' Astrid is well rooted on
the Danish alternative pop scene. In the spring she began her ambitious project 'Hurry Up and Kiss Me While the Baby's Still Asleep' – an autobiographic EP trilogy which is about her experiences on becoming a mother for the first time. On October 21 her new EP and 2nd chapter ‘Kiss Me’ in the trilogy will be released.

Astrid tells us about the process:

“I have chosen not to wrote all the songs beforehand because I wanted this release to have a documentary spin and to hopefully give it a more honest and rough feel. I often think of my songs as a photographer with a polaroid camera. I see my songs as a photograph of where I am at in my life at a certain moment in time. For ‘Kiss Me’ I was working with the dogma that all songs had to be about love.”

The 4-track EP is dedicated to the love that os the very foundation of starting a family. ‘Unwinding’ which kicks off the EP is a songs for Cordes’ mother and in very subtle phrases and soft whiskers it describes the relation between mother and daughter. 'Dancing Cranes' which was also the first single from the new EP is a more direct track with its pulsating guitars and a melody that leaves room for deep sighs, an explosive climax and a song that is basically about having sex on the living room floor. New single 'Heather & Pine’ sets the tempo even higher and flirts a little bit with a country vibe when Cordes backed by acoustic guitar and piano sings about how important it is that we remember to prioritize each other in a relationship. The EP closes with a song for Cordes’ daughter ‘Let Them Hear Every Step You Take’ which we have previously heard in a stripped down live session. In the studio version the song builds from acoustic guitar and vocals recorded in a way that makes it sound as if Astrid is setting right next to you in the living room, to rocking electric guitar, big choir, heavy drums and floating bells.

Trough all the tracks she manages to balance the romantic with the sober and even when she is most fragile, the dirty, distorted guitar still has a role which ensures that the EP never becomes sentimental.

Cordes marks the 2nd chapter of her EP trilogy with a big DK headliner tour that bring her all over Denmark with her 6-person band. In the spring 2023 the last chapter of the EP trilogy 'Baby's Still Asleep’ will be released after which the three EP’s will be put together on a double vinyl.

about

Astrid Cordes Copenhagen, Denmark

Since 2014 Astrid Cordes has been known as one of two vocals in the Danish duo Shy shy shy. Now she has put the sweet indie pop aside to make room for a new solo release which points in a more gritty and unpolished direction.

The songs are still steered by Cordes' charismatic voice and talent for telling stories, but is set in a darker, more guitar driven, mature and uncompromising environment.
